Perkins Canal Project Enters Public Comment Phase for Water Diversion from South Platte River
The Perkins Canal project has begun its public comment phase, open until April 6, to divert water from the South Platte River, Colorado, to Nebraska. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will assess environmental impacts, focusing on dredging and water resource effects, and will consider public interest factors. Concerns have been raised about economic impacts on counties along the river, particularly in Colorado. A preliminary impact statement will be produced in about a year, followed by public commentary and a final statement.
