Pertamina Enhances Digital Communication Strategy for Energy Education and Transparency
In a bid to strengthen public understanding of energy production and transition, Indonesian state-owned energy company Pertamina is leveraging digital media as a vital communication tool. Arya Dwi Paramita, the Corporate Secretary of Pertamina, emphasized the role of online platforms in shaping narratives about both upstream and downstream energy activities during a recent seminar hosted by the Masterás Program in Communication at Budi Luhur University.
Pertamina's communication strategy encompasses educational initiatives regarding oil and gas production processes, the enhancement of refinery flexibility, and infrastructure development in the upstream sector. In the downstream realm, the company focuses on retail business transformation and service improvement. Notably, Pertamina is also actively promoting its energy transition efforts, which include the development of biofuels, geothermal energy, chemical product downstreaming, and other low-carbon business ventures.
The digital media approach aligns with the Indonesian government's broader vision, termed "Indonesia Emas 2045," which aims for energy self-sufficiency and economic equity under President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Arya highlighted the necessity of effective communication in maintaining the companyás reputation, addressing strategic energy and environmental programs, providing responsive public services, and combating misinformation.
Furthermore, Arya urged the younger generation and students to engage responsibly in social media, stressing the importance of accurate information dissemination. Pertamina is committed to supporting Indonesia's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 through initiatives that directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles across its operations.
