Pertamina EP Rantau has successfully implemented the Ultimate Sand Trap (USAT) innovation, developed by its officers, to address production loss risks from sand problems in oil wells. The USAT accessory, installed in pump tubing, has reduced additional costs and increased revenue by billions of rupiah.

The We Are Fines method was introduced in 2023, followed by USAT in 2024, which aims to enhance the lifespan of electric submersible pumps (ESPs) used in 29 out of 87 wells. Since January 2024, USAT has reduced rig costs by 50% and production loss by 4%. Pertamina EP Rantau received a Platinum award at the 2025 Upstream Improvement & Innovation Award for this innovation.
