Philippines Explores Critical Minerals Agreement with Canada as Part of Indo-Pacific Defense Strategy
The Philippines is considering a critical minerals agreement with Canada to enhance partnerships in North America and strengthen its role in global supply chains. This follows a similar deal with the US aimed at boosting domestic mineral processing. The Philippines seeks to diversify supply chains amid geopolitical risks and has expressed interest in joining the US-led Pax Silica initiative for silicon supply chains. Additionally, Canada has designated the Philippines as a priority partner in its Indo-Pacific defense strategy, expanding joint military activities and cooperation.

The Philippines is exploring a critical minerals agreement with Canada to boost its position in global supply chains and enhance its partnerships in North America. Trade Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo indicated that the potential deal would align with a similar agreement with the US, established in February, aimed at attracting investment and increasing domestic mineral processing capacity.
