Pipeline Issues Disrupt Water Supply in Stumbin and Tanjung Bijat, Sarawak
Frequent water supply disruptions in Stumbin and Tanjung Bijat are attributed to leaks and maintenance issues along a 35km pipeline from Bayai Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) confirmed that weaknesses in the pipeline, especially in developing areas, are causing interruptions.
Current demand surpasses the Stumbin WTP's capacity of 0.65 million litres per day. JBALB is channeling an additional 2 million litres daily from Bayai WTP. Ongoing roadworks by the Public Works Department are also impacting the pipeline. JBALB is conducting inspections, replacing faulty valves, and repairing damaged pipes while deploying tankers and establishing water collection centers for affected residents.
