Pocahontas County Solid Waste Authority Raises Green Box Fee and Revises Regulations
The Pocahontas County Solid Waste Authority has increased the annual Green Box fee to $260 for the fiscal year 2026-2027, up from $135. Key revisions to the Mandatory Solid Waste Regulations were also adopted, addressing illegal dumping, exemptions for hardship cases, and flow control requirements for waste management.

The Pocahontas County Solid Waste Authority has approved an increase in the annual Green Box fee to $260, effective July 1, 2026, reflecting a significant rise from the previous fee of $135. This decision comes as the landfill is set to operate for six months before transitioning to a higher-cost disposal method.
Revisions to the Mandatory Solid Waste Regulations were also unanimously adopted, including provisions for addressing illegal dumping, hardship exemptions, and flow control measures that mandate all county waste to be disposed of at authorized facilities. Additionally, the SWA will conduct inspections to ensure compliance, and has allowed construction waste to be taken out-of-county under specific conditions. The SWA plans to review budget considerations and potential expansion of green box sites in the upcoming meetings.
