Porthos CO2 Storage Project Delayed to 2027
The Porthos carbon capture initiative has postponed its start to the second half of 2027, moving from an initial schedule of late 2026. This delay is attributed to interdependent project components and longer material delivery times.

The Porthos project, aimed at transporting and storing CO2 from the Port of Rotterdam in depleted North Sea gas fields, has adjusted its timeline, pushing the anticipated start from late 2026 to the second half of 2027. The construction of the pipeline through the port area is complete, and significant progress has been made on the compressor station and injection well conversions.
External factors have necessitated this rescheduling, including the complexity of interdependent project elements and delays in material procurement. The ongoing delay could result in an additional 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. Continued efforts are essential to maintain project momentum and ensure timely completion.
