Portugal Approves National Data Center Plan to Enhance Renewable Energy and Infrastructure
Portugal's Council of Ministers has approved a National Data Center Plan comprising 15 measures to boost the data center sector, including streamlined licensing and the establishment of pre-installed zones. Minister António Leitão Amaro highlighted the country's advantages, such as renewable energy access and submarine cable connections, while aiming to integrate industry and innovation with environmental considerations. Additionally, a strategic guide for data centers is being developed to further accelerate growth in the sector.

Portugal's Council of Ministers approved the National Data Center Plan, featuring 15 measures aimed at enhancing the data center sector. Key components include the coordination role of AICEP, the creation of pre-installed zones with pre-approved licenses, and a streamlined licensing process.
Minister António Leitão Amaro emphasized Portugal's unique advantages, such as accessible renewable energy and international submarine cable connections. The plan seeks to maximize strategic benefits by integrating industry, digital services, innovation, and controlling environmental costs. Minister Gonçalo Matias previously indicated that a strategic guide for data centers is being prepared to accelerate the sector's growth in Portugal.
