Proposed $2 Billion Data Center in Wisconsin Faces Collapse Amid Community Opposition
A proposed data center project in Grant County, Wisconsin, with an estimated value of $2 billion has stalled after initial enthusiasm. Community mobilization against the development, coupled with developer disengagement, raises concerns about future industrial projects in the region.

A proposed $2 billion data center project in Grant County, Wisconsin, has effectively ceased progress after initial discussions with developers ended abruptly. The project aimed to utilize the Cardinal-Hickory Creek transmission line for power, crucial for data centers, and was projected to create 50 permanent jobs and generate $5.5 million annually in property tax revenue.
However, community opposition has intensified, leading local governments to adopt moratoriums on data center developments. Economic development director Ron Brisbois noted a significant drop in developer communication, attributing the halt in discussions to community activism and legislative proposals aimed at regulating data centers. Without further engagement, the project's future appears bleak.
