Q5D and KYOCERA AVX Enhance Automation with Custom IDC Connectors
Q5D Technologies and KYOCERA AVX are advancing their collaboration to develop custom IDC connectors for automated wire harness assembly. This partnership aims to streamline production processes across multiple sectors, including automotive and aerospace.
On May 7, 2026, Q5D Technologies and KYOCERA AVX announced an expansion of their collaboration focused on creating custom insulation displacement connectors (IDC) for automated wire harness assembly. The new IDC designs will enhance the capabilities of Q5D's robotic platforms, which address manual assembly bottlenecks prevalent in industries like automotive and aerospace.
Previous joint evaluations covered wire specifications from 12 to 32 AWG and current capacities up to 20 A, emphasizing cold-weld terminations. The anticipated outcome is the establishment of standardized automated harness manufacturing techniques across various sectors, potentially reducing costs and improving efficiency.
