Queensland Government Funding Sought for Mount Peter Housing Infrastructure
Cairns Council is pursuing support from the Queensland Government to unlock 2,400 homes in Mount Peter via the Residential Activation Fund. This initiative aims to address projected population growth in Cairns, with an anticipated increase of 56,000 residents by 2046, necessitating expanded housing supply.

Cairns Council is applying for funding through the Residential Activation Fund (RAF) to facilitate the development of essential infrastructure in Mount Peter, which is projected to yield up to 2,400 new homes. The proposed works include upgrades to trunk water mains, wastewater lines, pump stations, and transport intersections, aimed at supporting sustainable growth in the region.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to accommodate Cairns' estimated population increase by 2046 and align with the Securing Cairns Housing Foundations Plan. Collaborative efforts involve multiple stakeholders, including Economic Development Queensland and local government, to ensure timely infrastructure delivery, essential for unlocking housing supply. Delays in infrastructure development could hinder Cairns' capability to meet its future housing demands.
