Redevelopment Plans for BAE Systems Site in Westover Underway
Preparations for the redevelopment of a 27-acre abandoned BAE Systems site in Westover are set to begin. The site, cleared a decade ago and previously owned by the federal government, is now under the Broome County Industrial Development Agency. After severe flooding in 2011, the 620,000-square-foot facility was demolished. A plan to elevate the land to prevent future flooding is in progress, with site plan information being prepared for approvals. Local businesses have shown interest in expanding operations at the site.

Redevelopment of a 27-acre site in Westover, formerly BAE Systems, is scheduled to commence soon. The property at 600 Main Street, owned by the Broome County Industrial Development Agency, was cleared about ten years ago and was previously a federal facility.
The site, known as Air Force Plant 59, housed operations for BAE Systems until it was flooded in September 2011 and subsequently demolished. Plans to elevate the land to mitigate future flood risks are underway.
The IDA is preparing site plans for approvals to create a 'build-ready' pad for future use. Local businesses have expressed interest in the site for expansion.
