REI Co-op Advances Climate Action with Renewable Energy Projects and Sustainable Material Initiatives in 2025
In 2025, REI Co-op launched several renewable energy projects and sustainability initiatives to reduce its environmental impact. The co-op partnered with Ever.green to launch a renewable energy project in South Carolina, contributing to local clean power.
REI extended its collaboration with Sol Systems and Nester Hosiery through a three-year renewable energy certificate purchase. This partnership also supported environmental education programs at Florida Atlantic University's Pine Jog Center, engaging high school students in climate resilience studies.
Additionally, REI joined the Symbiosis Coalition to promote nature-based carbon removal projects. To reduce material impact, REI signed a three-year agreement with Ambercycle to purchase 200 tons of cycora® regenerated polyester annually, aimed at creating a more circular lifecycle for its products. These initiatives mark significant strides in REI's commitment to sustainability.
