rePLANET Initiates Carbon Storage Project in Costa Rica with Major Fruit Company
rePLANET has launched a carbon storage project in Costa Rica in partnership with a major fruit company and biomass burial expert Nature Focus. The initiative aims to sequester 10,000 tonnes of woody biomass underground, ensuring carbon storage for 200 years while addressing high-carbon waste from agroforestry. Additionally, 15% of the land will be restored to natural habitats, promoting biodiversity and generating carbon credit income to support wildlife corridors.

rePLANET is developing a carbon storage project in Costa Rica, collaborating with a major fruit company and biomass burial specialist Nature Focus. The project aims to sequester 10,000 tonnes of woody biomass underground in engineered vaults to prevent carbon release, ensuring 200-year carbon storage permanence.
It addresses high-carbon waste from agroforestry by burying biomass from under-developed gmelina, teak, cacao, oil palm, coffee, and rubber trees. Additionally, 15% of the land will be restored to natural habitats to support biodiversity. The initiative represents an opportunity to generate carbon credit income while funding wildlife corridors in agroforestry areas.
