Residents Urged to Register for Connah's Quay Low Carbon Power Project Preliminary Meeting by December 30

CARBON CAPTURE

Residents interested in speaking at the Preliminary Meeting for the Connah's Quay Low Carbon Power Project must register by December 30, 2025. The meeting will be held on January 13, 2026, at the Village Hotel in Ewloe and online via Microsoft Teams.

This meeting is part of the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project process, which will outline the examination timetable and format. The Planning Inspectorate clarified that this meeting is not for debating the project's merits.

Concerns were raised by residents about the registration process after receiving notifications with a QR code for further information. The proposed power station aims to generate up to 1.38GW of low-carbon power using carbon capture technology linked to the HyNet pipeline.

Flintshire County Council previously ruled that no planning permission was needed for the demolition of the former gas treatment plant on the site, allowing preparatory works to proceed. The final project approval will be determined by the Secretary of State after the examination concludes.
