Rheem Validates Rooftop Heat Pump for DOE Cold Climate Challenge, Exceeding Efficiency Targets
Rheem has achieved a significant milestone in the U.S. Department of Energy's Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge by successfully validating a rooftop heat pump. The unit, designed for cold climates, surpassed the DOE's performance benchmarks, demonstrating 110% heating capacity at 5°F and 90% at -10°F. This innovation supports domestic manufacturing goals and is part of Rheem's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability.

Rheem has completed laboratory validation testing for a rooftop heat pump in the 10-14-ton category under the U.S. Department of Energy's Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge. The unit exceeded performance benchmarks, achieving 110% heating capacity at 5°F and 90% at -10°F, as verified by the DOE and the National Laboratory of the Rockies.
The heat pump is built on Rheem's Renaissance Commercial HVAC Line, manufactured in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and meets domestic manufacturing standards. Field validation is ongoing to assess performance in extreme winter conditions, aligning with DOE goals for energy efficiency and decarbonization.
