Rheinbahn and Mira Initiate Teleoperated Shuttle Trial in Düsseldorf
Rheinbahn, Mira GmbH, and Düsseldorf Airport are conducting a six-week teleoperated shuttle trial from July 13 to August 28, 2026. This initiative addresses driver shortages in public transport and explores the feasibility of remote vehicle operation.

The teleoperated shuttle trial, running Monday to Friday from 10:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:00, allows public use at no cost with services every 30 to 40 minutes. Each shuttle is monitored by a safety operator who can intervene if necessary.
The project evaluates teleoperation in real traffic conditions and its integration with transport systems, focusing on operational safety and user acceptance. This trial, part of the PoQuaSIA initiative funded by the German government, aims to assess teleoperation for both passenger routes and depot maneuvers, contributing to future automation in public transit. The involvement of entities like Rheinbahn and Mira, with over four years of teleoperation experience, highlights the potential shift towards technology-driven public transport solutions.
