Russia Plans Voronezh Ultra-Light Rocket Launch for 2029
Russia's Voronezh ultra-light carrier rocket, designed for satellite replacement, is set for its inaugural launch in December 2029. This initiative aligns with the country's growing need for advanced satellite constellations and aims to enhance security in near-Earth space.

The Voronezh ultra-light carrier rocket, measuring 20 meters in length and 2 meters in diameter, is scheduled for its first launch in December 2029, with a capacity to place up to 400 kg into a 500-km orbit. The rocket's development is being coordinated by the Skolkovo Foundation and VEB.RF, focusing on technological leadership in the space sector.
The project highlights the urgency of replacing retiring satellites efficiently, avoiding the high costs and delays associated with heavy rockets. Additionally, the initiative supports the creation of a strategic vision for private investment in the Russian space sector, with a goal of increasing extra-budgetary funding from 5% in 2024 to 35% by 2036. The emergence of threats from space debris further emphasizes the need for advanced technologies to ensure satellite safety.
