RussNeft Registers First Climate Project in Khanty-Mansi, Aiming for 401,340 Carbon Units
RussNeft has registered its associated petroleum gas utilization project in the carbon credit registry for the Tagrinskoye field in Khanty-Mansi, aiming to generate 401,340 carbon units over ten years. The project will utilize associated petroleum gas for electricity generation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and replacing traditional energy sources, with implementation set for 2024. It is expected to release 13,623 carbon credits during its initial crediting period, which concludes on May 19, 2027.

RussNeft has registered its associated petroleum gas utilization project in the carbon credit registry for the Tagrinskoye field in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District. The project aims to utilize associated petroleum gas for electricity generation via a gas-piston generator, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and replacing traditional energy sources.
Equipment modernization commenced in 2022, with the project set to be implemented in 2024. It is projected to release 13,623 carbon credits during its first crediting period, which ends on May 19, 2027, and to achieve a total reduction of 401,340 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over ten years, corresponding to 401,340 carbon units. Currently, 96 climate projects are registered in the carbon unit registry, with over 101.5 million carbon units envisioned, of which 36.5 million are in circulation.
