Saab and Royal Navy Test Quantum Timing for Radar Network Synchronization
Saab, Aquark Technologies, and the Royal Navy successfully demonstrated a radar network using quantum timing without GNSS. This advancement is crucial for military operations in environments where GNSS signals may be compromised.

In June 2026, Saab UK, Aquark Technologies, and the Royal Navy showcased a Giraffe 1X radar network that operates using quantum timing sources, specifically the AQlock cold-atom quantum clock, instead of GNSS. The trial took place at multiple UK locations and involved real-time tracking of targets, illustrating that distributed radar systems can maintain coherence without GPS.
During the test, controlled timing errors were introduced to simulate GNSS disruptions. Despite these errors, the radar maintained operational integrity, demonstrating resilience and rapid recovery capabilities. This marks the third collaboration between Aquark and the Royal Navy's DCTO since their joint initiatives began in December 2025.
