Safer Exploration Plans LNG Exports Resumption Amid Yemen's Energy Crisis
Safer Exploration & Production Operations Company aims to restart LNG exports and develop shale oil resources as Yemen's energy sector faces significant challenges. The company's initiatives are contingent on improved security and government approval, highlighting the precarious state of the industry.

Safer Exploration & Production Operations Company, Yemen's largest oil and gas producer, is prepared to resume liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports pending government approval. Currently, the company produces approximately 15,000 barrels of oil per day and 1.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, significantly down from pre-war levels of 32,000 barrels and 2.2 trillion cubic feet.
Safer is also exploring the development of compressed natural gas (CNG) and shale oil resources, contingent on investments and partnerships with international firms. The company successfully returned 17 inactive wells to production between 2023 and 2025, generating over 554,000 barrels of oil.
Future projects include new drilling initiatives and improving oil and gas production quality. The ongoing instability poses risks, yet Safer's operational resilience is crucial for Yemen's economic stability.
