Saligao Water Treatment Plant to Launch in December 2026
The new water treatment plant on the Saligao-Pilerne plateau is nearing completion and expected to be operational by December 2026. The project began in 2021 and will provide 30 million liters per day (MLD) to alleviate water shortages in surrounding villages. The plant will utilize raw water from the Tillari irrigation canal.

The Saligao water treatment plant (WTP) is set to be operational by December 2026, following inspections by local MLAs and water resources officials. Construction began in 2021, with the WTP designed to supply 30 million liters per day to Saligao, Pilerne, Nerul, Reis Magos, Candolim, and Calangute.
It will draw water from the Tillari irrigation canal and includes a 30 MLD pumping station at Boa Viagem, Calangute. Current work includes connecting remaining pipelines, with disruptions caused by past road digging for infrastructure. The plant aims to utilize surplus water from the canal.
