Sarajevo Secures EUR 500,000 for Heat Pump Project in District Heating System
Sarajevo Canton has obtained EUR 500,000 to advance the integration of heat pumps in its district heating system. This initiative, alongside the EBRD, aims to diminish air pollution and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with a total project cost exceeding EUR 20 million.

The Sarajevo Canton has secured EUR 500,000 from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to facilitate the introduction of heat pumps into its district heating system. This project, valued at over EUR 20 million, aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Following delays that previously led to its removal from the budget, the initiative has been revitalized over the past six months. It consists of two phases, with an initial 18 MW heat pump and an 8.5-kilometer heating network planned for the first phase.
The second phase will add another heat pump of the same capacity and a 6.5-kilometer network. The project is expected to provide cost-effective heating for citizens while improving energy security for the canton.
