SaskPower's Boundary Dam CCS Facility Captures 721,239 Tonnes of CO2 in 2025

CARBON CAPTURE

SaskPower's Boundary Dam Power Station carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility captured 721,239 tonnes of CO2 in 2025, marking a productive year despite an overhaul of Unit 3 from April 11 to July 8. Since its launch in October 2014, the facility has captured a total of 7,327,868 tonnes of CO2.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the CCS facility captured 232,826 tonnes of CO2 with an availability rate of 99.3%, the highest in the past five reporting periods, and a daily average capture rate of 2,826 tonnes. Unit 3 operated at 92.3% availability, exceeding its 80% target.

Additionally, the connected acid plant achieved 70.8% availability and produced 1,511 tonnes of sulphuric acid, surpassing its target of 1,250 tonnes. Emissions intensity was recorded at 296 tonnes of CO2 per gigawatt hour, below the carbon tax threshold of 549.1 tonnes.
