Saudi Arabia Completes First Eurofighter Typhoon Overhaul Outside Europe
King Fahd Air Base in Saudi Arabia has completed the first heavy maintenance overhaul of a Eurofighter Typhoon, marking a significant advancement in the Royal Saudi Air Force's self-sufficiency. Conducted over 180 days by a workforce of 80 percent Saudi nationals, this milestone aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 agenda for defense industrialization.

The Royal Saudi Air Force has achieved a significant milestone by completing the first heavy maintenance overhaul of its Eurofighter Typhoon fleet at King Fahd Air Base in Taif, Saudi Arabia. This operation, which took 180 days, was performed entirely on Saudi soil with 80 percent of the workforce being Saudi nationals.
Saudi Arabia operates 72 Typhoons, with 71 currently active, all based at Taif. This overhaul capability is crucial for maintaining operational readiness, particularly as the fleet continues to accrue flight hours due to active deployments.
The completion of this maintenance cycle is a key element of the broader Vision 2030 plan, aimed at localizing 50 percent of military spending. This achievement positions the Taif facility for future scaling, especially as negotiations for an additional 48 Typhoons are underway, potentially expanding the fleet to 120 aircraft.
