Sayreville Council Removes Data Centers from Hercules Redevelopment Plan
Sayreville Borough Council has revised the Hercules Redevelopment Plan II, removing data centers from the former Sunshine Biscuits site. This decision aims to address public concerns regarding high water and energy consumption associated with data centers.

The Sayreville Borough Council has amended the Hercules Redevelopment Plan II, eliminating the construction of data centers on the former Sunshine Biscuits site. This decision necessitates the reintroduction of the redevelopment ordinance in a future meeting, supported by council members.
The plan now focuses on two proposed warehouses, replacing an older warehouse at Jernee Mill Road and Bordentown Avenue. Concerns were raised about data centers' energy and water demands, with a mid-size data center potentially consuming over 100 million gallons of water annually.
The borough planner clarified that the current proposal only includes warehouses, with the developer agreeing to remove data centers from the plan. This amendment may alleviate community concerns over environmental impacts and infrastructure costs.
