Schiphol and BAM Launch Sustainable Project for Gas-Free Pier E
Schiphol Airport and BAM Bouw en Techniek are implementing a project to replace gas systems at Pier E, aiming for gas-free operations by 2030. This involves installing electric heat pumps and air conditioning units connected to an upgraded thermal energy storage system, projected to eliminate natural gas usage entirely.

Schiphol Airport and BAM Bouw en Techniek are replacing the climate control systems at Pier E to achieve gas-free operations by 2030. The project includes the installation of an electric heat pump and 17 air conditioning units, utilizing an upgraded thermal energy storage system to enhance energy efficiency.
The current gas consumption of approximately 290,000 m³ annually is expected to be reduced to zero by the target year. The phased approach, lasting until 2028, aims to minimize disruptions. BAM's collaboration supports Schiphol's broader electrification and sustainability efforts, aligning with its strategy of managing and optimizing infrastructure for reduced CO₂ emissions.
