Schneider Electric and Petrobras Collaborate to Expand Refinery Capacity in Brazil
Petrobras is enhancing its RNEST refinery with Schneider Electric's technologies, doubling diesel production capacity. This project strengthens Brazil's supply of low-sulfur diesel, ensures operational continuity, and fosters economic growth in the refining sector.

Petrobras is collaborating with Schneider Electric to expand the capacity of the Trem 2 at the Abreu e Lima Refinery (RNEST) in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, which will double diesel production. The project integrates Schneider's Foxboro distributed control system, Triconex safety systems, and electrical SCADA, optimizing engineering and operational complexity.
This integration promotes real-time correlation of electrical and process events, improving diagnostic speed and operational decisions. The Trem 2's expansion includes critical new units, enhancing the refinery's strategic position in Northern and Northeastern Brazil. The initiative also aims to enhance cybersecurity, technical training, and commissioning support, ensuring a secure transition to increased operational capacity.
