Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen Launches Smart FMS for Flexible Manufacturing Automation
Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH introduced the Smart FMS, a flexible manufacturing system, in 2025. This system features automated clamping technology (Sfix) and mobile robot cells (S-cell), enhancing workpiece processing efficiency and sustainability. It enables flexible machining without time-consuming changeovers, addressing economic and ecological goals. The system was first showcased at automatica in Munich and EMO in Hanover, receiving positive feedback for its adaptability and cost-effectiveness.

In 2025, Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH (SW) launched the Smart FMS, a flexible manufacturing system that allows for efficient and sustainable workpiece processing. Key components include the Sfix automated clamping system and the S-cell mobile robot cell.
The Smart FMS facilitates flexible machining of various workpiece types and batch sizes without lengthy changeovers, optimizing resource use and reducing costs. The Sfix system can replace up to 150 conventional clamping devices, while the S-cell autonomously manages material flow between production stations.
The system integrates with SmartFlow orchestration software for enhanced efficiency and adaptability to production changes. SW presented these technologies at automatica in Munich and EMO in Hanover, where they received positive industry feedback.
