Senegal Army Partners with Education Ministry for Youth Civic Engagement
Senegal has initiated a program leveraging military resources to enhance civic education in schools amid rising youth unemployment. This partnership aims to foster civic responsibility and engagement among the youth, addressing social tensions and disconnection from public life.

Senegal's Ministry of National Education (MEN) and the Ministry of Armed Forces (MFA) launched a partnership to promote civic education in schools on May 13, 2025. The initiative, part of the 'Army-Nation' concept, aims to instill civic responsibility and accountability among youth, responding to a 34.4% youth unemployment rate reported by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography in early 2024.
Agreements signed on November 10, 2024, and March 18, 2025, along with a memorandum on November 11, 2025, outline the operational framework for military involvement in educational activities. This program seeks to reconnect young people with civic life, addressing the social and economic pressures exacerbated by high unemployment and limited political representation.
