Seven States Challenge Trump Administration's Offshore Wind Project Termination
A coalition of seven states has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over the cancellation of an offshore wind project near New York. The suit emphasizes potential job losses and economic impacts, calling for the court to vacate the settlement that redirects funds to oil and gas development.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, alongside attorneys general from six other states, has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the Trump administration for terminating the Attentive Energy offshore wind project.
The Trump administration agreed to a $928 million settlement with TotalEnergies to cancel the project, which was expected to provide power to over 1.3 million homes and create 1,716 jobs. The funds from the settlement are to be redirected to oil and gas projects, which the plaintiffs argue violates multiple federal laws, including the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
The case asserts that the cancellation threatens significant economic benefits and undermines clean energy initiatives in the region. The lawsuit underscores ongoing tensions between energy policy and climate change initiatives, with potential implications for future renewable energy projects.
