Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans Enhances Staffing and Power Equipment for Flood Threat
The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is activating additional staff and utilizing new power equipment in preparation for a low-end flood threat. Currently, 85 of 93 main drainage pumps are operational, with eight offline across various locations. The agency is transitioning to a new on-site substation for pump power, moving away from older turbines. Interim General Superintendent Kaitlin Tymrak stated that the new static frequency changers will enhance reliability during this weather event.

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is activating additional staff to operate drainage pumps in anticipation of a low-end flood threat this weekend. Out of 93 main drainage pumps, 85 are operational, with eight offline, including five in New Orleans East.
The agency is implementing new power equipment, shifting from older turbines to electricity from a new on-site substation to run the pumps. The use of two new static frequency changers is expected to improve reliability for the upcoming weather event.
