Shropshire Council Begins Construction of Biochar Plant in Ludlow
Shropshire Council has begun construction on a biochar plant at Coder Road Business Park in Ludlow, with initial demolition of a former anaerobic digestion facility. Managed by Biodynamic Carbon Ltd, the project aims to produce around 1,000 tonnes of biochar annually, supporting local climate goals and generating revenue through sales and carbon credits. Completion is expected by the end of February 2026 as part of a broader green growth initiative.

Construction has commenced on Shropshire Council's biochar plant at Coder Road Business Park in Ludlow as of January 26, 2026. Initial work involves demolishing the former anaerobic digestion plant. The new facility will include an 11 by 15 metre building for drying and storing feedstock material.
Biodynamic Carbon Ltd oversees the project, with completion anticipated by the end of February 2026. The Ludlow plant aims to produce approximately 1,000 tonnes of biochar annually, contributing to local climate goals and generating income through biochar sales and carbon credits. The project repurposes an unused facility and is part of a broader green growth initiative supported by Shropshire Council and Powys County Council.
