Siemens and Stadler Consortium to Deliver 226 Automated Trains for Copenhagen S-Bane
DSB has announced a major investment to enhance Copenhagen's S-Bane with 226 new fully automated trains. This investment aims to improve service frequency, with trains running as often as every 1.5 minutes during peak hours. The trains will feature innovative designs and advanced technologies, including Siemens' Air-free Brake System. A 30-year service agreement will ensure maintenance and operational support. Full automation is targeted by 2033, with the initial phase of automated operations set for 2030.

DSB has partnered with Siemens and Stadler to introduce 226 fully automated trains for the Copenhagen S-Bane, marking the largest investment in its 90-year history. The new trains will increase service frequency during peak hours to a maximum interval of 1.5 minutes, accommodating up to 10 million additional journeys annually.
The design includes spacious interiors and innovative features like the Air-free Brake System, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 50%. A 30-year service agreement will cover maintenance and support, ensuring reliability and efficiency. Full automation is planned for 2033, with initial operations starting in 2030.
