Sligo Borough Footbridge Delayed; Property Condemnations Under Discussion
The Sligo Borough pedestrian footbridge installation is now expected between September and October, delaying its initial August timeline. The council is also addressing property condemnations, including a deteriorating downtown building, amid ongoing blight and code enforcement efforts.
Sligo Borough Council has announced a delay in the installation of a pedestrian footbridge, with the project now anticipated for early fall instead of August. The contract with Allison Park Contractors extends through October, and a progress meeting is scheduled for May 26.
Additionally, the council is considering condemning at least four properties, including a downtown building that is reportedly collapsing. The owner is seeking demolition quotes. Code enforcement actions have been initiated against several residents for violations.
The borough has also signed an agreement for a drainage project along Penn Street, costing under $10,000, allowing direct contractor hiring. A new dump truck is on its way, and billing disputes related to sewer lines are ongoing, with investigations into high water usage at a local car wash. The authority is also waiting for a second estimate on generator repairs for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
