Slovak Nuclear Energy Company JESS Set for Full State Ownership in 2026
JESS is on track to transition to full state ownership within the first half of 2026, with the acquisition of CEZ's 49% stake underway. This transition is critical as JESS will spearhead the construction of a new 1,200 MW nuclear facility in Slovakia.

The acquisition of the remaining 49% stake in the Slovak Nuclear Energy Company (JESS) from Czech company CEZ is anticipated to be finalized within the first half of 2026. Currently, JESS is 51% owned by the Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS).
Once fully state-owned, JESS will oversee the development of a new nuclear power facility on existing plant premises. JAVYS has estimated the price for the CEZ shares, pending review by the Value for Money Unit.
Additionally, JAVYS and newcleo have initiated a joint venture, Newvys, to explore advanced modular reactors and the management of spent nuclear fuel. This strategic move may influence Slovakia's energy landscape and investment in nuclear infrastructure.
