INDUSTRIAL IOT
Smithfield Foods will relocate its pork-packing plant to Foundation Park in Sioux Falls, starting construction in 2027. The project represents over $1 billion in investment, with no direct state financial assistance.
The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) contributed $12 million for site preparation and infrastructure. The current facility employs 3,200 and pays $200 million in wages. Smithfield aims to incorporate advanced technology and automation at the new site. The move is compliant with South Dakota's 2024 foreign ownership law, allowing certain foreign entities to operate under specific conditions.
