Solar-Powered Boat Development for Sohoton Ecotourism in Samar
A solar-powered electric pump boat has been developed by students at Eastern Visayas State University to enhance tourist transport in Sohoton, Basey, Samar. This initiative aims to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuel-powered boats, addressing rising fuel costs and promoting sustainable tourism.

Four engineering students from Eastern Visayas State University have created a solar-powered electric pump boat to facilitate tourist transport in Sohoton, Basey, Samar. The boat, featuring four 100-watt solar panels connected to a 48-volt battery system and powered by a 1,500-watt electric motor, was designed to alleviate rising fuel costs and reduce environmental impact.
It was handed over to the Wespal Sohoton Visitor Center & Eco-Lounge, benefiting the local community. The project aligns with growing trends in sustainable tourism, as it minimizes noise and carbon emissions, enhancing the visitor experience in an ecotourism area. Stakeholders, including the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Tourism, may support further development.
