Somaliland Implements Green-Gate to Combat Carbon Emissions
Somaliland has launched the Green-Gate platform and a national carbon emissions levy to enhance climate governance. This initiative aims to automate emissions management across key sectors and align with international environmental standards.

The Somaliland government has introduced the Green-Gate digital platform alongside a national carbon emissions levy system, effective April 2. This initiative, established through a ministerial decree on March 31, is designed to automate monitoring and management of carbon emissions in sectors such as ports and airports.
The government has partnered with Solide Technology for advanced technology deployment while maintaining regulatory oversight. This framework aligns with standards from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The initiative addresses climate challenges in the Horn of Africa, particularly recurring droughts and erratic weather patterns, and aims to advance sustainable development while positioning Somaliland in global carbon market frameworks.
