South West Water has invested millions in Dawlish, nearing completion of upgrades aimed at reducing storm overflow reliance. The project features two storm storage tanks, each with a capacity of 2.2 million litres, designed to manage excess rainfall.
Additional upgrades include surface water separation at West Cliff and Exeter Road, along with new pump chambers and sewer connections. Efforts to limit groundwater infiltration in existing pipes have also been finalized.
As the main construction phase concludes, focus is shifting to site reinstatement, ensuring community areas are restored by summer. This project is part of the £760 million Turning the Tide programme aimed at reducing storm overflows region-wide over four years.
