Space Intelligence Partners with Verra to Create REDD Risk Maps under VM0048
Space Intelligence is tasked with producing jurisdictional activity data, forest cover benchmark maps, and deforestation risk maps under VM0048 and VMD0055 for several jurisdictions over five years. This collaboration aims to enhance the integrity of avoided-deforestation crediting by establishing independent, jurisdiction-wide baselines, thereby increasing project developers' confidence and transparency in carbon credit supply.
Space Intelligence will deliver jurisdictional activity data and risk maps under the VM0048 framework for various jurisdictions over five years. This partnership extends an ongoing collaboration, during which Space Intelligence has produced seven Forest Cover Benchmark maps for regions including Tanzania and Indonesia.
The new methodology emphasizes independent, jurisdiction-wide baselines to improve the credibility of avoided-deforestation credits. With expertise in processing satellite data and ecological assessments, Space Intelligence aims to broaden the adoption of high-integrity REDD+ projects. Increased transparency and scientific grounding are anticipated outcomes that could enhance market confidence in carbon credits.
