In 2025, Spain's total electrical balance improved by 25.1%, indicating a significant rise in exports and a reduction in imports compared to 2024. The country's renewable generation capacity increased by over 11,000 megawatts, with solar photovoltaics contributing more than 10,000 megawatts.
Despite this progress, Spain remains heavily reliant on foreign energy, with 80% of its energy needs met through imports, costing the economy over €51 billion for oil and gas. The shift towards electrification is critical for enhancing competitiveness and energy independence. The nuclear sector contributed 19.05% of electricity, emphasizing its role in a stable energy supply amidst geopolitical tensions.
