Spain to Build IFMIF-DONES Nuclear Fusion Research Centre with €174 Million Investment
The IFMIF-DONES project, Spain's first nuclear fusion experimentation centre, aims to design and construct a facility to simulate neutron flux for testing materials for future fusion power plants. The project is backed by the Spanish government and Junta de Andalucía, with an initial investment of €174 million. Construction is led by a consortium including Ferrovial, FCC Construcción, and Añil, with operations expected to start by the end of 2029.

The IFMIF-DONES project involves the establishment of Spain's first nuclear fusion experimentation and research centre. This facility will simulate neutron flux to test materials for future fusion power plants, incorporating two particle accelerators to create fusion-relevant conditions.
The project, supported by the Spanish government and the Junta de Andalucía, has an estimated initial expenditure of €174 million. Construction will be led by a consortium of Ferrovial, FCC Construcción, and Añil, with operations projected to commence by the end of 2029.
