Sri Lanka Initiates Grid Upgrade Tender with ADB Support for Energy Transition
Sri Lanka's National System Operator has issued an international tender to modernize grid management infrastructure, supported by ADB funding. This project aims to integrate a Renewable Energy Management System to enhance the grid's ability to manage renewable energy sources, addressing critical operational challenges.

The National System Operator Private Limited (NSO) has launched an international tender to upgrade Sri Lanka's core grid management infrastructure under the Power System Strengthening and Renewable Energy Integration Project (PSSREIP) with backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project seeks to integrate a Renewable Energy Management System (REMS) with the SCADA/EMS platform at the National System Control Centre, essential for managing a grid increasingly reliant on renewable sources.
Bidders must have prior experience in contracts exceeding USD 6 million and an average annual turnover of USD 16 million, attracting major international firms. The bid deadline is May 14, 2026, with implementation expected to take about 18 months. This initiative is crucial for improving efficiency amidst rising generation costs and aligning with climate commitments, reinforcing the need for advanced grid capabilities.
