Srinagar's Smart City Initiative: 15 of 25 Public Washrooms Functional Amid Urban Challenges
Srinagar's Smart City Project has only 15 of the planned 25 public washrooms operational. While the city has made progress in solid waste management and infrastructure projects, significant issues persist in drainage and public sanitation. No immediate plans for additional washrooms have been proposed despite increasing urban demands.

Srinagar's Smart City Mission reports that only 15 of 25 public washrooms are functional. The government has indicated that there are no plans for more washrooms amid rising tourist numbers. Drainage issues persist, attributed to waste dumping, despite efforts like mechanised desilting and monitoring.
Key projects, including a Traditional Souq and SCADA system installations, are ongoing and expected to finish by May 2026. Srinagar has achieved 100% door-to-door waste collection and is progressing towards 100% waste processing by 2027. Stray dog sterilization efforts have also been implemented, with over 15,000 dogs sterilized between June 2023 and September 2025.
