Stadtwerke Dessau Signs 15-Year Biochar Heat Agreement with Novocarbo
Stadtwerke Dessau has finalized a 15-year agreement with Novocarbo for a renewable heat supply, amounting to 13.5 GWh annually. This partnership aims to enhance the district heating network's sustainability while contributing to climate neutrality goals.

Stadtwerke Dessau has entered into a 15-year heat offtake agreement with Novocarbo to deliver renewable heat to the Dessau-Roßlau district heating network. The annual supply is set at up to 13.5 gigawatt hours (GWh).
Novocarbo plans to establish the Carbon Removal Park Dessau to convert biogenic residues into biochar and renewable heat through the Biochar Carbon Removal (BCR) process, with operation expected by January 1, 2028. This collaboration is expected to reduce fossil fuel dependence while promoting climate-friendly technology and regional resource utilization. The facility will also generate carbon credits, aligning with Novocarbo's strategy for a net zero economy.
