Strengthening India's Siliguri Corridor: A Key to Enhanced Defense Readiness
India is prioritizing upgrades to the Siliguri Corridor to mitigate strategic vulnerabilities. Investment in alternative roads, military positioning, and utility infrastructure is essential for national security.

The Siliguri Corridor, a critical 22-kilometre route connecting northeastern India to the mainland, requires urgent enhancements to prevent crises. Key measures include developing alternative road networks to ensure redundancy, establishing rapid-deployment military units near Kishanganj, and reinforcing utility infrastructure for operational resilience.
India's defense budget for 2024-25 is Rs 6.21 lakh crore, with a need for corridor-specific allocations. Strengthening this corridor will deter adversaries by demonstrating military capability and readiness, reducing the likelihood of escalation. Without these improvements, the corridor will remain a strategic vulnerability.
