SUEZ and PYREG Launch Pyrolis® S2B for Pyrocarbonisation of Sewage Sludge
SUEZ and PYREG introduced Pyrolis® S2B, a pyrocarbonisation technology that converts sewage sludge into PFAS-free biochar while sequestering carbon. This integrated system enhances energy efficiency and is adaptable to various facilities. The biochar serves as a climate mitigation tool and is valuable in agriculture and construction. The partnership aims to address the challenges of managing 340 million tonnes of effluents produced annually in France.

SUEZ and PYREG have launched Pyrolis® S2B, an integrated pyrocarbonisation technology that converts sewage sludge into PFAS-free biochar, sequestering carbon in the process. The system employs low-energy drying and high-temperature pyrolysis, ensuring energy efficiency and eliminating harmful compounds.
This technology addresses the complex challenge of managing 340 million tonnes of annual effluents in France. The process produces stable biochar, recognized by the IPCC for carbon sequestration, which can enhance soil fertility and be used in construction materials. The collaboration combines SUEZ's sludge treatment expertise with PYREG's reactor technology to create scalable solutions for organic waste management.
