Surge in Home Energy Upgrade Applications in Ireland for Q1 2026
In the first quarter of 2026, home energy upgrade applications in Ireland increased by 96% year-on-year, with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) processing 29,000 applications. This growth is driven by a €640 million allocation from the government to enhance the affordability and accessibility of energy upgrades.

The SEAI processed 29,000 applications for home energy upgrades from January to March 2026, marking a 96% increase compared to the first quarter of 2025. Individual upgrade requests surged by 186%, with notable increases in applications for windows and doors (over 7,000), attic insulation (1,700, up 81%), cavity wall insulation (1,000, up 62%), and heat pumps (350, up 95%).
The government aims to achieve 73,000 upgrades this year, supported by a record €640 million funding in Budget 2026. Since 2019, over €1.7 billion has funded more than 257,000 energy upgrades. The National Energy Affordability Taskforce is set to release an Energy Affordability Action Plan in Q3 2026 to further support efficiency upgrades. The ongoing demand for affordable energy solutions highlights the critical need for government initiatives in enhancing home energy performance.
