SWELECT Energy Explores Wafer Manufacturing Entry Amid Market Shifts
SWELECT Energy Systems is assessing a move into wafer manufacturing, citing lower complexity than cell production. This decision aligns with anticipated solar capacity growth in India, where domestic wafer production is currently limited.

SWELECT Energy Systems is evaluating entry into the wafer manufacturing sector, aiming to initiate plans within six months. The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy's proposal to include solar wafers in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers by June 2028 highlights the growing focus on solar technologies, especially given the expected 50-60 GW cell capacity in the market this year.
The company is also expanding its module manufacturing capacity to 2 GW, despite industry overcapacity concerns, and has recently launched a Battery Energy Storage Systems portfolio. Geopolitical tensions have caused slight impacts on imports and disruptions in supply chains for essential materials.
